The Law Offices of Diane M. Sternlieb, J.D., B.S.N., R.N.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia. PA. I moved to Georgia in 1988, with a few stops along the way for my late husband’s orthopedic training. I have three children, and have been widowed since 1999. Prior to my marriage, I attended Thomas Jefferson College of Allied Health, one of the top medical colleges in the country, located in Philadelphia. There I earned my Bachelor’s Degree (BSN) in nursing. I then worked as a registered nurse (RN) in various fields, including pediatric child abuse/surgery; adult Gynecology; adult general surgery; and lastly in adult cardiac and medical intensive care.
I retired from nursing in 1986, after the birth of my first child, who was born with varied orthopedic birth defects. I spent more time than I can recall at various hospitals, doctors, and other specialists attending to my daughter. I come from a medical family and was all too familiar with all the procedures, treatments and surgeries my daughter required. Until the year 2000, I was a stay-at-home mom to my three children and bred, raised and competed Hanoverian horses in the discipline of Dressage. All that suddenly changed in 1999, after the unexpected death of my husband. After he died, while raising my three children as a single mom, I attended Georgia State College of Law and thoroughly enjoyed all of my time there, receiving many awards and top honors in a variety of my studies, including top honors in Litigation, Legal Research & Writing and Corporations. I was a member of the College of Law Moot Court Team, receiving top brief and competing for our school. I knew at the start I was well suited for two areas of practice: family/juvenile law and medical malpractice. I spent my entire last year as an extern in the Dekalb County District Attorney’s office working specifically in the “Crimes against Children” unit. That was truly an amazing experience working with so many talented and dedicated seasoned attorneys fighting horrific and unspeakable crimes committed against children.
I graduated in 2004 with honors and worked my first two years in a large law firm in my town focusing on family law issues, medical malpractice, and a smattering of automobile insurance defense. I opened my own practice in 2006, with a hope of focusing even more on children and the juvenile court system. I am certified both as a Guardian ad litem (GAL) and in Collaborative Law. Currently, I now spend a great amount of time working as a GAL in both Juvenile Court and Superior Court, in addition to my family law practice. My family law/juvenile practice is extremely rewarding, fast paced and always interesting meeting so many types of people/families. I work in all counties surrounding Atlanta, GA.
In addition to my practice in family law, I also practice in the area of medical and dental malpractice, wrongful death, and serious personal injury. I have the good fortune to partner on these challenging and lengthy cases with a top, experienced, and humble malpractice attorney, Curtis Thurston, “Chip”. Together, Chip and I take on large and challenging cases involving serious medical injuries. We are excellently paired – with his legal experience and my medical experience. Together, we fight hard for our clients, and hopefully change medical errors- one case at a time.
I learn something from each and every case! I hope to bring about a much needed change in the domestic law arena by reducing conflict and avoiding further family deterioration by encouraging reasonable behavior on all issues. I also devote a substantial amount of my time to medical malpractice cases. I believe the most important thing for any potential malpractice or personal injury client is that they feel complete trust and faith in my representation. I pride myself in treating each one of my cases with meticulous attention to detail and fight diligently for the best possible result.
With all of my children off in graduate school, two in law school and one in medical school, I spend my free time riding and enjoying my horses. I am very passionate about dressage and anything horse! I have four dogs and enjoy running outside on my farm with them. I may be a transplanted “Yankee” but I have called Georgia home for more than 20 years, and well you just can’t get good sweet tea anywhere else!!
